[:en]SCRIPTURE:  HEBREWS 3

“But Christ is faithful as a son over God’s house.  And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast” (Hebrews 3:6)

“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion” (Hebrews 3:15)

Why is Jesus greater than Moses?  See the comparison between them (vs. 1-6)

  1. Moses was called by God; Jesus was sent by God.
  2. Moses was a prophet of law; Christ is the Apostle of grace.
  3. Moses’ ministry was the earthly calling of Israel; Christ is the “heavenly calling” for all mankind.
  4. Moses never occupied the office of High Priest; Christ is the High Priest.
  5. Moses sinned when he struck the rock twice instead of speaking to the rock as what God had instructed him;  Christ lived a sinless life.
  6. Moses was a servant of God in Israel; Christ is the Son of God over God’s household.
  7. Moses served in the Old Testament ministry of bondage and servitude; Christ ministry is under the New Covenant of liberty and joy.
  8. Moses used symbols to minister; Christ is the fulfillment of  these things.

Warning Against Unbelief (vs. 7-19)

Because the Jews were under bondage in Egypt, God took Israel through Red Sea and led them to the border of Canaan.  But Israel rebelled in unbelief and refused to believe in God.  So God judged the entire congregation except Joshua and Caleb.  The Jews had to wander in the wilderness for 40 years.  Those who disobeyed never entered into the promised land.

This is an illustration of spiritual truth.  The blood of Jesus had set us free from the world.  When trials and testing come, believers must trust in God and surrender their wills and lives to Him.  Do not wander in the wilderness of defeat due to “unbelief”.  Hear God’s voice and do not allow yourself to be deceived by sin.

LESSON

It is important to hear the word of God.  Failure to do so will cause us to drift from the Word and doubt the Word.  If you allow yourself to be lured by sin deceitfulness and  hardened by stubborn disobedience, you will become dull to His Word.

Sin is deceptive.  It starts small and gradually grows bigger.  The evil heart of unbelief comes from not hearing God’s Word .  Those who hold fast to His Word will truly be saved.
