[:en]SCRIPTURE: HEBREWS 8
“This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, “”Know the Lord’, because they will all know me, from the least of them to the great. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more” (Hebrews 8:10-12)
During the time of Moses, the Levitical priests ministered according to the Old Covenant with Israel at Mt. Sinai. But God introduced a “New Covenant” which is better than the old one.
The Old Covenant vs. the New Covenant:
- In the old Covenant, Aaron, the high priest never sat on the throne. In the New Covenant, Jesus is the King-Priest who sat on the throne.
- Earthly priest ministers from earth in the Old Covenant. Jesus ministers from heaven in the New Covenant.
- The Old Covenant is Law demanding perfect obedience. The New Covenant promises Grace.
- The Old Covenant was written with the finger of God on the tablets of stone. The New Covenant is written by the Spirit on the human heart and mind.
- The blood of bulls and of goats could only cover sins. In the New Covenant, sins are forgiven and forgotten.
- The Old Covenant became obsolete and will pass away. The New Covenant will last forever with the promise of eternal blessings.
LESSON:
The New Covenant is superior than the Old Covenant in many ways. The priesthood is Jesus. The place is in heaven. The promise is grace, inner change, forgiveness and eternal blessings.
When the Holy Spirit came to the believers at Pentecost, the New Covenant was in force. All nations and people who repented and received Christ as their Savior will share the blessings and promise of the New Covenant.
Rejoice and be glad ,for God had finished the work of redemption. He can lead us to spiritual maturity and transform our lives to be more like Him.[:]
