[:en]SCRIPTURE:  2 PETER 3

“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief.  The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.  Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?  You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.  That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire and the elements will melt in the heat.  But in keeping with His promise, we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness” ( 2 Peter 3:10-13)

“Be on guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position.  But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  To Him be glory both now and forever!” (2 Peter 3:17-18)

This is the last letter of Peter.  He used the word “dear” to show his love and care for the believers.

Peter’s final reminders:

  1. Do not forget God’s word (v. 5)
  2. To God, time is always in the present tense (v. 8)
  3. The Lord is patient waiting everyone to come to repentance (9)
  4. The Day of the Lord will come like a thief.  It will also  be known as the Great Tribulation.  Then judgment will follow (v. 10)
  5. Live holy and godly lives (v. 11)
  6. Look forward to a new heaven and new earth, the home of righteousness (v. 13)
  7. Make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with Him (v. 14)
  8. Be on guard not to be carried away by the error of the lawless men (v. 17)
  9. Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord (v. 18)

LESSON:

God created everything by His Word.  So we must feed on the Word.  We should learn the Word and show Bible truth in our lives.  Just as His Word caused the flood, His Word will one day bring judgment of fire to the ungodly world (v. 10)

As judgment is coming, we must seize every opportunity to share the gospel to the lost.  We must beware of scoffers who refuse to believe in God’s Word.  We must be on guard on how we should live.  We must seek God’s wisdom and exercise our spiritual muscles.  In summary, let us grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord.
