[:en]SCRIPTURE:  MATTHEW 28

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20)

THE RESURRECTION (vs. 1-10)

After the Sabbath at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.  There was a violent earthquake and an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and rolled back the stone of the tomb.  The angels told the two Mary’s that Jesus had risen.  He told them to go to Galilee and meet Jesus there.  So, the women went to tell the disciples.  Suddenly, Jesus appeared to the disciples and said: “Do not be afraid.  Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me” (v. 10)

THE GUARD REPORT (vs. 11-15)

When the guard went into the city to report to the chief priest everything that had happened, the chief priests and elders bribed the guards with large sum of money and told them to say that His disciples came during the night and stole Him while they were asleep.  The soldiers took the money as instructed.

THE GREAT COMMISSION (vs. 16-20)

The eleven disciples went to Galilee and met Jesus in the mountain.  Then Jesus gave them this Great Commission:

  1.  Go
  2. Make disciples
  3. Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit
  4. Teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

He promised to be with them always to the very end of this age.

SUMMARY:

The Resurrection of Christ is the central truth and the climax of the Gospel.  It proves that Jesus is the Son of God and assures us of our future resurrection (1 Thes. 4:13)

MOUNTAIN SCENES APPEARED IN MATTHEW SEVERAL TIMES:

  1. Sermon on the Mount – Beatitude (Chapter 5-7)
  2. High Mountain – The Transfiguration (Chapter 17)
  3. Mount of Olives – Signs of End Times (Chapter 24-25)
  4. Mount Calvary – Crucifixion (Chapter 27)
  5. Mount Galilee – Final Meeting with disciples (Chapter 28)

THE GREAT COMMISION CONTAINS 4 UNIVERSALS:

  1. All Authority (v. 18) – Jesus had conquered death and defeated Satan.  All authority has been given to Him.
  2. All Nations (v. 19) – Jesus gives us the mission to spread the gospel to all nations.  Evangelism includes winning people to Christ, baptizing them to have church fellowship with each other.
  3. Everything (v. 20) – We are to teach them to obey everything God has commanded us.  That includes the whole Word of God, not only a portion of it.
  4. Always (v. 20) – God promises to be with us and care for us through His Spirit and in His Word.

So, let us take the Great Commission by heart and share the gospel to all people.[:]
