[:en]SCRIPTURE: ROMANS 5
“We also rejoice in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character and character, hope” (Romans 5:3-4)
“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8)
“Just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men. For just as through the disobedience of the one man, the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man, the many will be made righteous” (Romans 5:18-19)
PEACE AND JOY (vs. 1-11)
After being justified, here are the blessings we can get from God:
- Peace with God (v. 1)
- Access to God (v. 2a)
- Hope of the glory of God (v./ 2b)
- Confidence in our sufferings (v. 3)
- Love of God poured out by the Holy Spirit (v. 5)
- Saved from God’s wrath (v. 9)
- Reconciled with God (v. 11)
DEATH THROUGH ADAM, LIFE THROUGH CHRIST (vs. 12-21)
Adam and Christ are being contrasted:
- The first Adam was earthly; Christ was heavenly.
- The first Adam sinned; Christ is sinless.
- The first Adam was the king of the old creation (Gen. 1:26-27); Christ is the King-Priest over the new creation (2 Cor. 5:17)
- The first Adam was tested in the Garden of Eden; Christ was tested in the wilderness.
- The first Adam disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruit of the good and evil; Christ obeyed God to die on the cross for us.
- The first Adam brought sin and death upon human race. The obedience of Christ brought righteousness, salvation and life to all who believe.
- The first Adam brought punishment and condemnation; Christ offered forgiveness and grace.
SUMMARY:
Adam’s sin brought death to whole human race, but Christ’s obedience gives life to those who trust in Him. As children of Adam, we are condemned but as children of God we are justified. After being justified, we can enjoy God’s grace of peace, joy, hope and love. We are in Christ’s new creation full of God’s grace in our life.
