[:en]SCRIPTURE: ROMANS 10
“If you confess with your mouth “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9)
“Anyone who trusts in Him will never be put to shame” (Romans 9:11)
“Everyone who calls in the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13)
“Faith comes from hearing the message and the message is heard through the Word of Christ” (Romans 10:17)
The Jews understood “righteousness” in a wrong way. What they knew of was “work righteousness” which came from obeying the laws. So, they thought their deeds were the way to secure a right standing with God. However, Christ came to die for us to give us the gift of salvation through “faith righteousness”. We can be saved through simple faith, not blind religion. The cross had cancelled the reign of the Law. It is now God’s word that is given for us to obey. Salvation comes when sinners confess that “Jesus is Lord” and believe in the name of the Lord. When a sinner receives Christ by faith and confesses with his mouth, he receives the gift of righteousness.
Sinners cannot be saved apart from the Word of God. For faith comes from hearing and hearing by the word of God (v. 17). That is why Paul said: “How can one call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? Therefore, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news” (vs. 14-15)
Because Israel rejected Christ, mercy was extended to the Gentiles. Grace was made possible at calvary to both the Jews and the Gentiles. God is still waiting for the Jews to come to repentance.
SUMMARY:
- The gift of salvation is free. It is given to those who confess with their mouths and believe in their hearts that Jesus is Lord.
- The Word of God must be preached to the lost sinners because faith comes from hearing the message and the message in through Word of Christ” (V. 17)
- Nobody is able to fulfill righteousness through works. Righteousness is only possible through faith in Christ.
