[:en]SCRIPTURE: NEHEMIAH 10
“The rest of the people – priests, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, temple servants and all who separated themselves from the neighboring peoples for the sake of the Law of God, together with their wives and all their sons and daughters who are able to understand – all these now join their brothers the nobles, and bind themselves with a curse and an oath to follow the law of God given through Moses the servant of God and to obey carefully all the commands, regulations and decrees of the Lord our Lord. (Nehemiah 10:28-29)
This chapter listed all the names of those who committed themselves to obey the will of God. There were 84 men who put their seal to the covenant in order to show to the people their serious obedience to God.
Those names represented the whole families. They made public dedication and obedience to marriage (v. 32). Sabbath and the Sabbatical year (v. 31), their support of temple (v. 32). and their gift and sacrifices for the temple ministry (vs. 33-39). They did not want to neglect the house of their God.
THINGS TO REMEMBER:
- Let us praise God and give thanks to God for His blessings
- Let us dedicate ourselves to the Lord
- Let us obey His command and live a holy life
- Let us contribute to the house of the Lord
- Let us serve God wholeheartedly and faithfully.
