[:en]SCRIPTURE:  JOB 13

“Why do I put myself in jeopardy and take my life in my handsThough he slay me, yet will I hope in him.  I will surely defend my ways to his face.  Indeed, this will turn out for my deliverance, for no godless man would dare come before him!” (Job 13:14-16)

“Only grant me these two things, O God, and then I will not hide from you:  Withdraw your hand far from me, and stop frightening me with your terrors.  Then summon me and I will answer, or let me speak and you reply.  How many wrongs and sins have I committed?  Show me my offense and my sin” (Job 13:23)

“Why do you hide your face and consider me your enemy?  Will you torment a windblown leaf?  Will you chase after dry chaff? (Job 13:24-25)

“So man wastes away like something rotten, like a garment eaten by moths” (Job 13:28)

Here, Job wanted to speak to the Lord Almighty and argue his case with God.  He described his friends as worthless physicians and without wisdom for their maxims are proverbs of ashes.

He asked his friend these 6 questions:

  1. Will you speak wickedly on God’s behalf?
  2. Will you speak deceitfully for him?
  3. Will you show him partiality?
  4. Will you argue the case for God?
  5. Would it turn out well if he examined you?
  6. Could you deceive him as you might deceive men?

The great faith of Job was proven when he said: “Though he slay me, yet will I trust him!” (v. 15).  He knew that he will ultimately be vindicated (v. 18).

When we try to help others, do not act like a prosecuting attorney.  Instead put yourself in his shoes so that you can understand how he feels.
