[:en]SCRIPTURE:  ESTHER 8

“For how can I bear to see disaster fall on my people?  How can I bear to see the destruction of my family?” (Esther 8:6)

“Now write another decree in the king’s name in behalf of the Jews as seem best to you, and seal it with the king’s signet ring – for no document written in the king’s name and sealed with is ring can be revoked” (Esther 8:8)

THE KING’S EDICT IN BEHALF OF THE JEWS (vs. 1-17)

Haman, the enemy of the Jews had been killed.  Mordecai was given the authority once held by Haman.  The king took off his signet ring which he had reclaimed from Haman and gave it to Mordecai.  Esther appointed him over Haman’s estate.

Although Haman was killed, but the king could not cancel his decree and the Jews would be slain.  However, he could issue another edict to give the Jews the right to arm and protect themselves.  So, Esther begged the king to issue a new decree.  The king gave Mordecai the authority to act for him.  So, a new law that superseded the old one was issued granting every Jew in every city the right to assemble and protect  themselves, to destroy, kill and annihilate any nationality or province that might attack them and their women and children; and to plunder the property of their enemies” (v. 11)

The couriers riding the royal horse, raced out to send out the decree.  Every province and every city, there was joy and gladness among the Jews.  And the city of Susa held a joyous celebration.

SUMMARY:

This is an illustration of how God solve the sinners’ plight.  We are under condemnation because of the law of sin and death (Rom 3:23; 6:23).  This law was not revoked.  Instead, God obeyed it by sending His Son to die for our sins and bring the law of the Spirit of life (Rom 8:2).  Any sinner who believes the message and accept Christ will receive everlasting life (John a3:15-16)

Now, we as Christ’s followers must be God’s courier to send the good news to the ends of the earth as quickly as possible to save the condemned sinners.[:]
