This Psalm reflected a beautiful image of Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection. It is also a fulfillment of the New Testament story of the cross.
SCENE ON THE CROSS:
- Christ spoke: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me” (Psalm 22:1 / Mat. 27:46)
- He cried out by day till night. There was alternate of light and darkness (Psalms 22:2 / Mat. 27:45)
- He was like a worm scorned by men and despised by people (Psalms 22:6-7 / Mat. 27:39-44)
- There is no one to help in his trouble (Psalms 22:11 / Mat. 26:56)
- They cast lots to divide His clothing (Psalms 22:18 / Mat. 27:35)
- His hands and feet were pierced (Psalms 22:16 / John 19:34)
- People stared and gloated over him (Psalms 22:17 / Luke 23:35)
Description of different kinds of animals that made him suffered:
- Strong bulls surrounded and encircled him (v. 12)
- Roaring lions came with wide open mouths (v. 13)
- Dogs have surrounded him (v. 16)
However, the final section declared His resurrection and victory. it concluded His final glory when salvation had been accomplished. Jesus became the Savior and King. Ultimately, the earth will kneel and bow down before him.
