[:en]SCRIPTURE: PSALM 10
“Arise Lord! Lift up your hands, O God. Do not forget the helpless (Psalm 10:12)
“But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless” (Psalm 10:14)
“You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more” (Psalm 10:17-18)
The Psalmist was asking these questions:
- Lord, why do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? (v. 1)
- Why are the ways of the wicked always prosperous (v. 5)
- Why does the wicked man revile God and says: “He won’t call me to account” (v. 15)
Psalmist’s requests from God:
- Arise Lord! Lift your hand O God. Do not forget the helpless (v. 12)
- Break the arm of the wicked and evil man and call him to account his wickedness (v. 15)
The Psalmist’s conclusion:
- The Lord is King forever and ever. The nations will perish from his land (v. 16)
- You hear the desire of the afflicted, encourage them and listen to their cry (v. 174)
- You have defended the fatherless and the oppressed (v. 18)
David started with questions, proceeded with requests and ended up seeing God working and triumph in the end.
We have a very little control over the circumstances of our lives. But we can let God control our hearts. All we need is to humble ourselves before God and He will lift us up.[:]
