[:en]SCRIPTURE:  PSALM 42

“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.  When can I go and meet with God?” (Psalm 42:1-2)

“Why are you downcast, O my soul?  Why so disturbed within me?  Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God” (Psalm 42:5, 11)

“By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me – a prayer to the God of my life” (Psalm 42:8)

The writer asked this interesting question twice:  “Why are you down cast, O my soul?  Why so disturbed within me? (vs. 5, 11).  David was very depressed because he felt that God was far from him.  His depression was aggravated when he remembered his good old days.  He longed to return to the house of God with shouts of joy and thanksgiving among the festive throng.  People were saying God had forgotten you.  Where is your God?  David discovered a remedy to control his depression, and that is to put his hope in God and praise Him.

Satan’s way of throwing darts as us is through depression and discouragement.  What is the cure?  The Psalmist said: “Hope in God and praise Him”.  That is the greatest medicine for a broken heart.  No matter how your feel, no matter what your circumstances are, look to His wonderful face.  And you will experience his love, mercy and comfort.[:]
