[:en]SCRIPTURE: PSALM 88
“O Lord, the God who saves me, day and night I cry out before you. May my prayer come before you; turn your ear to my cry” (Psalm 88:1-2)
“I call to you, O Lord, every day; I spread out my hands to you” (Psalm 8:9)
Why, O Lord, do you reject me and hide your face from me?” (Psalm 88:14)
Henan, the Ezrahite was the writer of this Psalm. He was having difficult days suffering tremendously. And God had not given him any relief.
DESCRIPTION OF HIS SUFFERINGS AND PROBLEMS TO THE LORD:
- I have no strength (v. 4)
- I am set apart with the dead and cut off from your care (v. 5)
- I am in the lowest pit and darkest depth (v. 6)
- I suffer your wrath heavily (v. 7)
- My closest friends became repulsive to me (v. 8)
- I have been afflicted and close to death (v. 15a)
- I am in great despair (v. 15b)
- I have been destroyed by your wrath (v. 16)
- I have been surrounded by your terrors (v. 17)
- My companions and loved ones departed from me (v. 18)
But the psalmist hold on to God’s power, lovingkindness and faithfulness. He continued to cry out to the Lord in prayer (v. 1 ,2, 9, 13). He waited God to act in his behalf.
There are times when you feel weak and alone. Allow God to work in your behalf during times of trials. Do not get discouraged. Do not turn away from God. Continue to pray and wait. He will eventually bring you out of your affliction in His time.[:]
