[:en]SCRIPTURE: PSALM 76
“You alone are to be feared. Who can stand before you when you are angry? From heaven you pronounced judgment, and the land feared and was quiet” (Psalm 76:7-8)
“Make vows to the Lord your God and fulfill them; let all the neighboring lands bring gifts to the One to be feared. He breaks the spirit of rulers; he is feared by the kings of the earth” (Psalm 76:11-12)
Asaph talked about “fear” in verse 7, 11 and 12. What does he mean by “fear”? It is the “fear of the Lord” – the reverent respect, acknowledging his greatness and power. The name of God is great and well known in Israel. His tent is in Salem and his dwelling place in Zion. He broke the enemy’s arrows, shields and swords. Warriors, horses and chariots were unable to stand before the God of Jacob. For he came from heaven to pronounce judgment and save the afflicted. All the people must fulfill their vows and bring gifts to the Almighty.
In Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 it says: “Fear God and keep his commandments for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment including every hidden thing whether it is good or evil”. Therefore, show reverence to God by being the light and salt of the world and remember to fulfill your vows to the Lord.[:]
