[:en]SCRIPTURE: PSALM 144
“He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me” (Psalm 144:2)
“O Lord, what is man that you care for him, the son of man that you think of him? Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow” (Psalm 144:3-4)
“I will sing a new song to you, O God; on the ten-stringed lyre I will make music to you, to the one who gives victory to kings, who delivers his servant David from the deadly sword” (Psalm 144:9-10)
“Blessed are the people of whom this is true; blessed are the people whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 144:15)
This is a battle hymn sang by David. He sang this song making music on a ten-stringed lyre to the Lord. He described God as: loving, good, my fortress, my stronghold, my deliverer, my shield and my refuge (v. 2). Then he asked this question: “What is man that you care for him? (v. 3). We may not understand why God care for us. But we can experience His love, His grace, His mercy and His faithfulness. He wants us to trust in Him.
PEOPLE WHOM GOD IS THE LORD CAN ENJOY THESE BLESSINGS:
- Personal joy – David was delivered from the deadly sword of his enemies. He experienced joy and praised God through songs (v. 9)
- National peace – God gives victory to King David, so the whole nation can live in peace (v. 10)
- Family testimony – David said: “Our sons in their youth will be like well nurtured plants and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace (v. 12). What a joy to see family members who are fruitful and growing in the Lord.
- Bountiful provisions – Barns will be filled. Sheep will increase by thousands, and oxen will draw heavy loads (vs. 13-14)
We are ‘NOBODY” but God treats us as “SOMEBODY“. Walk with Him. Rejoice in the Lord for His blessings and bring Him glory.
