[:en]SCRIPTURE:  PROVERBS 4

“Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them.  Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you” (Proverbs 4:5-6)

“Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.  Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evil men” (Proverbs 4:13-14)

“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” (Proverbs 4:23)

The author used “my son” 3 times.  First, to listen to a father’s instruction (v. 1).  Second, to accept what I say (v. 10), and third, to pay attention to what I say and listen closely to my words (v. 20).  He told his son that wisdom is supreme, therefore get wisdom (v. 7)

WHY IS WISDOM SUPREME?

  1. She will protect you and watch you (v. 6)
  2. She will exalt you and honor you (v. 8)
  3. She will set a garland of grace on your head and present you with a crown of splendor (v. 9)
  4. She will lead you along straight path with unhampered walk (v. 12)
  5. She is life to those who find her and health to a man’s whole body (v. 22)

PAY ATTENTION TO THE FOLLOWING BODY PARTS:

  1. HEART – Guard it, for it is the wellspring of life (v. 23)
  2. MOUTH AND LIPS – Keep it from perversity and corrupt talk (v. 24)
  3. EYES – Fix it straight ahead (v. 25)
  4. FEET – Take a level path and firm ways (v. 26)

Our whole person must be controlled by God’s word of wisdom to guide us and keep our foot from evil.  We should esteem and embrace her.  We should listen and pay attention to her so that we can gain understanding and live a long life with a healthy body.  Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the ways of evil men.  For the way of the wicked is darkness.  But the path of the righteous ins the light that shines.[:]
