[:en]SCRIPTURE:  PROVERBS 18

“An unfriendly man pursues selfish ends; he defies all sound judgment” (Proverbs 18:1)

“A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions” (Proverbs 18:2)

“The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook” (Proverbs 18:4)

“It is not good to be partial to the wicked or to deprive the innocent of justice” Proverbs 18:5)

“The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man’s inmost parts” (Proverbs 18:8)

“Before his downfall a man’s heart is proud, but humility comes before honor” (Proverbs 18:12)

“He who answers before listening – that is his folly and his shame” (Proverbs 18:13)

“Casting the lot settles disputes and keeps strong opponents apart” (Proverbs 18:18)

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21)

Friendship is important.  But it has its risks.  We may have many acquaintances but we should know how to choose real friend.

CHARACTERISTICS OF FRIENDS TO AVOID:

  1. One who pursues selfish ends and defies all sound judgment (v. 1)
  2. One who finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his our opinions (v. 2)
  3. One who is partial to the wicked and despise the innocent of justice (v. 5)
  4. One who is fond of gossiping (v. 8)
  5. One who is lazy (v. 9)
  6. One who is proud (v. 12)
  7. One who answers before listening (v. 13)
  8. One who answers harshly (v. 23)

Be a true friend and God will give you true friends who will stick close to you through your life.
