“Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you will be like him yourself” (Proverbs 26:4)
“As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly” (Proverbs 1269:11)
“Like one who seizes a dog by the ears is a passer-by who meddles in a quarrel not his own” (Proverbs 26:17)
“Without wood a fire goes out; without gossip a quarrel dies down” (Proverbs 26:20)
“The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man’s inmost parts” (Proverbs 26:22)
“Like a coating of glaze over earthenware are fervent lips with an evil heart” (Proverbs 26:23)
“A malicious man disguises himself with his lips, but in his heart he harbors deceit” (Proverbs 26:24)
PEOPLE TO AVOID
- Fool – He can’t be changed by giving honor (v. 1), by correcting him (v. 3) by admonishing him (vs. 4-5) or by teaching him (v. 9)
- Sluggard – He is too lazy to work. You cannot help him because he considers himself wise (vs. 13-16)
- Troublemaker – He meddles in a quarrel not his own (v. 17), deceives his neighbor (v. 18) and stirs up quarrel with gossips (v. 30)
- Malicious man – He disguises himself with his lips but his heart harbors deceit. He has charming speeches but are concealed with deception. He is a wicked person with a tongue that hurts and a flattery mouth that ruins. (vs. 24-26)
