“Better a poor man whose walk is blameless than a rich man whose ways are perverse” (Proverbs 28:6)
“He who increases his wealth by exorbitant interest amasses it for another, who will be kind to the poor” (Proverbs 28:8)
“If anyone turns a deaf ear to the law, even his prayers are detestable” (Proverbs 28:9)
“He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy” (Proverbs 28:13)
“Blessed is the man who always fears the Lord, but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble” (Proverbs 28:14)
“A tyrannical ruler lacks judgment, but he who hates ill-gotten gain will enjoy a long life” (Proverbs 28:16)
“He who works his land will have abundant food, but the one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty” (Proverbs 28:19)
“A faithful man will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished” (Proverbs 28:20
“A greedy man stirs up dissension, but he who trust in the Lord will prosper” (Proverbs 28:25)
“He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe” (Proverbs 28:26)
“He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses” (Proverbs 28:27)
The author of this Proverb described different kinds of men:
- Wicked man – He always flees though no one pursues (v. 1). He forsakes the laws (v. 4). When he rises to power, people go into hiding (v. 28a). He rules over helpless people like a roaring lion or charging bear (v. 15). His ways are perverse and will suddenly fall (v. 18)
- Rebellious man – many rulers make a country rebellious (v. 2).
- Tyrannical ruler – oppresses the poor and lacks judgment (v. 3, 16)
- Evil man – He does not understand justice (v. 5)
- Poor man – Better a poor man who is blameless than a rich man whose ways are perverse (v. 6). Better a poor man with discernment than being rich but unwise (v. 11)
- Lawful man – He who keeps the law is a discerning son (v. 7)
- Lawless man – He turns a deaf ear to the law ( v. 9)
- Blameless man – The blameless will receive a good inheritance (v. 10). He will be kept safe (v. 18)
- Rich man – He considers himself wise in his own eyes (v. 11)
- Righteous man – When the righteous triumph, there is great elation (v. 12a). The righteous thrive while the wicked perish (v. 28b)
- Unrighteous man – To show partiality is not good (v. 21a)
- Hardworking man – He who works his land will have abundant food (v. 19a)
- Lazy man – He who chase fantasies will have his fill of poverty (v. 19b)
- Faithful man – A faithful man will be richly blessed (v. 20)
- Stingy man – A stingy man is eager to get rich and is unaware that poverty awaits him (v. 22)
- Robber – He who robs his father or mother will be destroyed (v. 24)
- Greedy man – A greedy man stirs up dissension (v. 25a)
- Generous man – He who gives to the poor will lack nothing but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses (v. 27)
