INTRODUCTION:
Song of Songs is a collection of love poems between a lover and his beloved. It is a beautiful presentation of the love of husband and wife and a holy expression of true commitment in marriage.
Written by King Solomon, the Jews saw this book picturing the Jehovah’s love for Israel. Christians see it illustrating Christ’s love for the church and the individual believer.
The first commandment is: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your souls, and with all your strength. Song of Songs is for the loving heart, Ecclesiastes is for your mind and Proverbs is for your souls.
This chapter is a conversation between the beloved, friends and the lover.
Beloved – She wants to spend time with him and enjoy his love with food, drink and the fragrance of sweet perfumes (v. 2, 4) She wants him to lead her into his chambers (v. 4). She regarded herself dark but worthy of his love and care (vs. 5-7). Her lover is like a sachet of myrrh and cluster of henna blossoms from the vineyard of En Gedi (vs, 12-14). She commended her lover as handsome and charming (v. 16).
Friends – They rejoiced and were delighted to see the love of the couple (v. 4b) and gave advice on how to choose beautiful women (v. 8)
Lover – He described his beloved as follows: Your cheeks are beautiful with earrings, your neck with strings of jewels (v. 10) and your eyes are doves (v. 15)
SUMMARY:
The most important ingredient for a happy married couple is LOVE. That is also true with our relationship with God. We must spend time with Him in His Word and through prayers. We must express our love to Him in words and deeds. Follow Him so that you can have a deeper experience in His chambers and enjoy at His banquet hall. Show your love to Him through your faithful devotion and service. Walk in path of loving fellowship with Him.
