[:en]SCRIPTURE:  ISAIAH 37

“Isaiah said to them, “Tell your master, ‘This is what the Lord says:  Do not be afraid of what you have heard – those words with which the undelrings of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.  Listen! I am going to put a spirit in him so that when he hears a certain report, he will return to his own country, and there I will have him cut down with the sword'” (Isaiah 37:6-7)

“Now, O Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all kingdoms on earth may know that you alone, O Lord, are God” (Isaiah 37:20)

“Once more a remnant of the house of Judah will take root below and bear fruit above.  For out of Jerusalem will come a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors.  The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this” (Isaiah 37:31-32)

“I will defend this city and save it, for my sake and for the sake of David my servant!” (Isaiah 37:35)

JERUSALEM DELIVERANCE FORETOLD (vs. 1-13)

When the king of Assyria threatened to invade Jerusalem, King Hezekiah put on sackcloth, went to the temple of God and prayed for the remnant that still survived.  But Isaiah told them not to be afraid of the enemy.  He encouraged them with God’s word of assurance.

HEZEKIAH’S PRAYER (vs. 14-20)

Hezekiah took his burdens to the Lord through prayer.  He told God what the enemy said and wrote.  He trusted the living God to deliver them and believed that the Lord alone is the only God in all kingdoms of the earth.

SINNACHERIB’S FALL (vs. 21-28)

The angel of the Lord put to death 85 thousand men in the Assyrian camp.  So, king Sennacherib withdrew and returned to Nineveh.  One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god, Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer cut him down with the sword and escaped to the land of Ararat.   His son Esarhaddon succeeded him as king.

When you are attacked by the enemy, take your burdens to Him in prayer.  Do not listen to the discouraging words of the enemy.  Turn your fear into faith by trusting in God’s word of promise.  Know that everything is under God’s control and your future is in God’s hand.[:]
