[:en]SCRIPTURE:  ISAIAH 17

“In that day men will look to their Maker and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel.  They will not look to the altars, the work of their hands, and they will have no regard for the Asherah poles and the incense altars their fingers have made” (Isaiah 17:7-8)

“You have forgotten God your Savior; you have not remembered the Rock, your fortress.  Therefore, though you set out the finest plants and plant imported vines, though on the day you set them out, you make them grow, and on the morning when you plant them, you bring them to bud, yet the harvest will be as nothing in the day of disease and incurable pain” (Isaiah 17:10-11)

AN ORACLE CONCERNING DAMASCUS

Damascus is the capital of Syria.  The northern kingdom of Israel had allied with Syria and both fell into the hands of  the Assyrians.  Damascus will no longer be a city but become a heap of ruins.  It will be deserted and the fortified city will disappear (vs. 1-3).  Their finest plants and imported vines will not produce any fruits (v. 10).  They will be driven like chaff of the hills (v. 13).  Terror will come in the evening.

Isaiah described the picture of Israel being judged by God.  The glory of Jacob will fade like sunset, a fat person losing weight (v. 4) and a field without harvest (vs. 5-6)

LESSON:

We must not put confidence in our own works have rather trust God who makes our hands to work.  We must worship only the TRUE GOD, the Lord Almighty.[:]
