[:en]SCRIPTURE: ISAIAH 20
“Those who trusted in Cush and boasted in Egypt wil be afraid and put to shame. In that day the people who live on this coast will say, “See what has happened to those we relied on, those we fled to for help and deliverance from the king of Assyria! How then can we escape?” (Isaiah 20:5-6)
A PROPHECY AGAINST EGYPT
There are two object lessons given to the Jewish people not to form unholy alliance with other nations.
- The defeat of Cush – The Cushites depended on Egypt and Ethiopia to help them but their help failed. They were conquered by the Assyrians.
- The defeat of Egypt – The Lord told Isaiah to strip and go barefoot for 3 years to look like a prisoner of war. When the Assyrians invaded Egypt, that was what the Egyptians had become.
We should pay attention to what we see and hear so that we can make the right decision.[:]
