“At that time, they will call Jerusalem the Throne of the Lord, and all nations will gather in Jerusalem to honor the name of the Lord. No longer will they follow the stubbornness of their evil hearts. In those days, the house of Judah will join the house of Israel, and together they will come from a northern land to the land I agave your forefathers as an inheritance” (Jeremiah 3:17-18)
“Return, faithless people; I will cure you of backsliding” “Yes, we will come to you, for you are the Lord our God” (Jeremiah 3:22)
The nation of Israel was “married” to Jehovah at Mount Sinai when God gave His covenant. But they became unfaithful wife by having many “lovers”. God warned them to return for He will cure them of their backsliding. He will have mercy on them and not be angry forever, if only they will acknowledge their guilt of rebellion and idolatry.
Backsliding is like a sickness infected with sin. It starts with losing of spiritual appetite gradually declining until death. If we humbly return to God, He will accept us and heal our backsliding.[:]
