[:en]SCRIPTURE:  JEREMIAH 18

“Now therefore say to the people of Judah and those living in Jerusalem, ‘This is what the Lord says:  Look!  I am preparing a disaster for you and devising a plan against you.  So turn from your evil ways, each one of you, and reform your ways and your actions” (Jeremiah 18:11)

“Yet my people have forgotten me; they burn incense to worthless idols, which made them stumble in their ways and in the ancient paths.  They made them walk in bypaths and on roads not build up” (Jeremiah 18:15)

“Like a wind from the east, I will scatter them before their enemies; I will show them my back and not my face in the day of their disaster” (Jeremiah 18:17)

AT THE POTTER’S HOUSE (vs. 1-17)

The Lord told Jeremiah to go to a potter’s house to see how the potter shaped the clay to form into a pot.  Then he said: “Can’t I not do with the house of Israel as the potter does?”  Likewise, if the people do evil, I can announce a nation to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed.  But if they repent of their sins, I can also announce that a national to be built up and planted.  God warned them to turn from their evil ways and reform their ways and actions.  If they will follow their stubborn evil heart by burning incense to worthless idols, this land will be laid waste and they will be scattered before their enemies.

The people were against Jeremiah.  Instead of listening to his counsel, they wanted to attack and kill him.  So, Jeremiah sought vengeance from the Lord.[:]
