[:en]SCRIPTURE:  JEREMIAH 32

“I am the Lord, the God of all mankind.  Is anything too hard for me” (Jeremiah 32:27)

“I will surely gather them from all the lands where I banish them in my furious anger and great wrath; I will bring them back to this place and let them live in safety.  They will be my people, and I will be their God.  I will give them singleness of heart and action, so that they will always fear me for their own good and the good of their children after them.  I will make an everlasting covenant with them:  I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire them to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me.  I will rejoice in doing them good and will assuredly plant them in this land with all my heart and soul” (Jeremiah 32:37-41)

JEREMIAH BUYS A FIELD

During the 10th year of Zedekiah, king of Judah, Jeremiah was confined on the courtyard of the guard in royal palace of Judah.  The army of the king of Babylon came to besiege jerusalem.

King Zedekiah imprisoned Jeremiah because he prophesied that the king of Babylon will capture the city and that King Zedekiah will be taken to Babylon and speak to king of Babylon face to face.

God told Jeremiah to buy a field at Anathoth from his uncle’s son Hanamel.  So, Jeremiah paid him 17 shekels of silver with the deed of sale.  Then he gave all the documents of deeds to Baruch to be placed in a clay jar for safekeeping.  After the deed of purchase, Jeremiah was asking God:  If the Babylonians were coming to attack the city, what is the purpose of purchasing that field?”  Then the Lord told Jeremiah :   “Because the people of Israel and Judah were rebellious and disobedient, they did evil and set up abominable idols in my temple.  They build high places for Baal in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to sacrifice their sons and daughters to Molech and provoked me to anger.  That is why I will perish them with sword, famine and plague and hand them over to the king of Babylon.  But I promise to gather them from all the lands and bring them back to live in safety.  I will make an everlasting covenant with them and give them prosperity.  Fields will be bought and deeds will be signed.  I will restore their fortress”

The faith of Jeremiah was manifested by obedience to God’s Word.  Jeremiah preached to the people that they will be captured by the Babylonians, but one day, they will return from exile.  So he purchased property occupied by the enemy and believed that one day there is a future for that field.

God never fails us.  Let us take time to pray and hear His voice.  Let us live in the future tense and make decisions based on God’s promises.[:]
