[:en]SCRIPTURE: EZEKIEL 13
“Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: In my wrath I will unleash a violent wind, and in my anger, hailstones and torrents of rain will fall with destructive fury. I will tear down the wall you have covered with whitewash and will level it to the ground so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it fails, you will be destroyed in it; and you will know that I am the Lord” (Ezekiel 13:13-14)
“Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against your magic charms with which you ensnare people like birds and I will tear them from your arms; I will set free the people that you enshare like birds. I will tear off your veils and save my people from your hands, and they will no longer fall prey to your power. Then you will know that I am the Lord” (Ezekiel 13:20-21)
FALSE PROPHETS CONDEMNED
False prophets invented their own message and said: “The Lord declares”. They saw false visions and uttered lying divinations . They were dangerous foxes living among the flock. Instead of shepherding, they were religious scavengers. They preached false peace, having confidence in their own feelings and not from God. They built the walls to protect themselves but it will collapse because God was going to tear it down into ruin. Some women sew magic charms and make veils for their heads to ensnare people like birds. But God will tear off their veils and save the people so that they will no longer fall prey to their power. The Lord will punish those who disheartened the righteous with lies and encouraged the wicked not to turn from their evil ways.
‘Then you will know that I am the Lord” appeared 4 times in this chapter. When will the people know the true God?
- When the false prophets will not belong to the council of God’s people or be listed in the record of the house of Israel and they will not enter the land of Israel (v. 9)
- When a violent wind with hailstorms and torments of rain will tear down the wall and its foundation laid bare and all the people being destroyed (v. 14)
- When the Lord will tear off the charms and the veils and save the people so that they will no longer fall prey to their power (v. 32)
- When they will no longer see false visions or practice divinations and God will save His people (v. 23)
