[:en]SCRIPTURE: EZEKIEL 23
“For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “I am about to hand you over to those you hate, to those you turned away from in disgust. They will deal with you in hatred and take away everything you have worked for. They will leave you naked and bare, and the shame of your prostitution will be exposed. Your lewdness and promiscuity have brought tis upon you, because you lusted after the nations and defiled yourself with their idols” (Ezekiel 23:28-30)
“So I will put an end to lewdness in the land, that all women may take warning and not imitate you. You will suffer the penalty for your lewdness and bear the consequences of your sins of idolatry. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign Lord” (Ezekiel 23:48-49)
TWO ADULTEROUS SISTERS:
The Lord described to Ezekiel two adulterous sisters namely: Oholah and Oholibah. Ohola (her tent) represents Samaria, the northern kingdom and Oholibah (my tent is in her) represents Judah, the Southern kingdom. Both of them lusted after their lovers and gave themselves as prostitutes to the elite of the Assyrians, Chaldeans and Babylonians. they also defiled themselves with their idols by sacrificing their children and desecrated God’s sanctuary. God judged Samaria in 722 BC when Assyria took them captive. God also judge Judah when Babylon invaded and conquered them.
Jewish nation was wedded to Jehovah. So, when they gave themselves to foreign gods, they were infidel and committing harloty and adultery. In the same manner, when we become Christian, we become His bride. God wants single hearted devotion from His bride.[:]
