[:en]SCRIPTURE:  EZEKIEL 29

“Because you said, “The Nile is mine; I made it”, therefore I am against you and against your streams and I will make the land of Egypt a ruin and a desolate waste from Migdol to Aswan, as far as the border of Cush.  No foot of man or animal will pass through it; no one will live there for forty years.  I will make the land of Egypt desolate among devastated lans, and her cities will lie desolate forty years among ruined cities. And I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them through the countries” (Ezekiel 29:10-12)

“Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am going to give Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will carry off its wealth.  He will loot and plunder the land as pay for his army.  I have given him Egypt as a reward for his efforts because he and his army did it for me, declares the Sovereign Lord” (Ezekiel 29:19-20)

“On That day I will make a horn grow for the house of Israel, and I will open your mouth among them.  Then they will know that I am the Lord” (Ezekiel 29:21)

A PROPHECY AGAINST EGYPT

The king of Egypt was a great monster lying in the streams.  He said: “The Nile is mine I made it for myself” (v. 2).  But God would capture the monster and give him as food to the beasts of the earth and the beasts of the air (v. 5).  Because the Jews trusted Egypt instead of trusting the Lord, God was showing them the judgment of Egypt so that they will know that God is their Lord.  King Nebuchadnezzar will conquer Egypt and carry off its wealth.  He will loot and plunder the land as payment for his army (v. 19)

What events will let the people know that “He is the Lord?”

  1.  When king of Pharaoh will fall (vs. 2-6)
  2. Sword will kill the Egyptians and Egypt will become a desolate wasteland (vs. 8-9)
  3. The Egyptians will be dispersed among the nations for 40 years.  Yet God will gather and return them to Upper Egypt and become a lowly kingdom.  Israel will be reminded of their sins in turning to Egypt for help (vs. 12-16)
  4. The land of Egypt will be given to the king of Babylon and Israel will regain strength (vs. 19-21)
