[:en]SCRIPTURE: AMOS 6
“Woe to you who are complacent in Zion, and to you who feel secure on Mount Samaria, you notable men of the foremost nation, to whom the people of Israel come!” (Amos 6:1)
“The Sovereign Lord has sworn by himself – the Lord God Almighty declares: “I abhor the pride of Jacob and detest his fortresses; I will deliver iup the city and everything in it” (Amos 6:8)
WOE TO THE COMPLACENT (vs. 1-7)
The nation was guilty of complacency. They laid on beds inlaid with ivory, lounged on couch, dined on choice lambs and fattened calves, drink wine by the bowlful and used the finest lotions (vs. 4-6). They were guilty of self indulgence, hurting people of the land with a reign of terror.
THE LORD ABHORS THE PRIDE OF ISRAEL (vs. 8-14)
God hated the pride of Jacob. He will send 3 judgments for them: death (vs. 9-10), destruction (vs. 11-13) and defeat (v. 14). Because they had turned justice into poison and righteousness into bitterness, they will never escape judgment for their sins.[:]
