[:en]SCRIPTURE:  ZECHARIAH 12

On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves. On that day I will strike every horse with panic and its rider with madness,” declares the Lord. “I will keep a watchful eye over Judah, but I will blind all the horses of the nations. Then the clans of Judah will say in their hearts, ‘The people of Jerusalem are strong, because the Lord Almighty is their God.’” (Zechariah 12:3-5)

“The Lord will save the dwellings of Judah first, so that the honor of the house of David and of Jerusalem’s inhabitants may not be greater than that of Judah” (Zechariah 12:7)

JERUSALEM’S ENEMIES TO BE DESTROYED (v.s 1-9)

The phrase “ON THAT DAY” was mention 6 times in this chapter.  It refers to the end times when “the day of the Lord” will climax with the return of Jesus Christ to defeat His enemies, deliver Israel and establish His kingdom.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN “ON THAT DAY”?

  1.  He will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations (v. 3)
  2. He will strike every horse with panic and its rider with madness.  He will keep a watchful eye over the house of Judah and blind all the horses of the nations (v. 4)
  3. He will make the leaders of Judah like a firepot in woodpile, like a flaming torch among sheaves (v. 6)
  4. He will shield those who live in Jerusalem (v. 8)
  5. He will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem (v. 9)

MOURNING FOR THE ONE THEY PIERCED (vs. 10-13)

When the people of Israel saw the Messiah, they will recognize Him, repent, be cleansed and forgiven.  This sorrow will be more intense than the sorrow displayed a the tragic death of godly king Josiah (2 Chron. 35:20-24)).  The clan of David, Nathan, Levi, Shimei and their wives and all the rest of the clan will mourn for the one they pierced.

APPLICATION:

In this life, we experience many trials and sorrows.  But God will see us through and share His kingdom and glory with us as promised in Acts 14:22 – “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God”[:]
