[:en]SCRIPTURE:  MICAH 1

INTRODUCTION:

Micah’s name means “Who is like the Lord”.  He lived in Judah during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah.  His messages included call to hear for the coming judgment, the restoration of future kingdoms and God’s invitation to the people to turn to him.  His message consisted of judgment mingled with mercy and hope.

Look! The Lord is coming from his dwelling place;  he comes down and treads on the heights of the earth.  The mountains melt beneath him and the valleys split apart, like wax before the fire, like water rushing down a slope”: (Micah 1:3-4)

Shave your head in mourning, for the children in whom you delight;
make yourself as bald as the vulture, for they will go from you into exile” (Micah 1:16)

JUDGMENT AGAINST SAMARIA AND JERUSALEM

Micah announce Jehovah’s verdict of judgment against Israel.  Assyria invaded the northern Kingdom in 722 BC and made the capital city a heap of ruins.

WEEPING AND MOURNING (vs. 8-16)

Micah mourned like a man at the funeral. He wept on the terrible things that would happen to Israel and Judah.

REFLECTION:

Does the certainty of the coming judgment cause us to mourn for the lost sinners and seek to win them to Christ?
