[:en]SCRIPTURE:  NAHUM 1

INTRODUCTION:

Nahum means “comfort”.  He was a prophet who prophesized at the same time as Zephaniah, jeremiah and Habakkuk.  His message was a comfort to the Jews who hated the cruelty of the Assyrians.  Jonah was sent to Nineveh, the capital of Assyria to give the people the message to repent.  Now Nahum was called to announce their imminent judgment.  He declared the fall of Nineveh.

“The Lord is slow to anger but great in power; the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished.  His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and clouds are the dust of his feet” (Nahum 1:3)

“The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble.  He cares for those who trust in him” (Nahum 1:7)
