THE HEALING OF A DEMON-POSSESSED MAN ( vs. 1-20)
A demon-possessed man was living in a tomb. He was being chained hand and foot but he broke apart the chains and the iron. No one could subdue him and he would cry out and cut himself with stones. When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell off his knees and told Jesus not to torture him. Jesus said to him: “Com out of this man, you evil spirit”. The evil spirit called themselves Legion and begged Jesus to send them among the pigs. Jesus gave them permission and they went into the pigs. The herd of about 2,000 rushed down the steep bank into the late and were drowned.
When the people saw what had happened, they pleaded Jesus to leave their region. The cured demon possessed man begged to go with Jesus but Jesus told him to tell the people how much the Lord has down for him and show his mercy. So, the man began to give his testimony.
A DEAD GIRL AND A SICK WOMAN (vs. 21-43)
A synagogue ruler named Jairus pleaded Jesus to come to his daughter who was dying. While on the way, a woman who had an incurable disease of bleeding for 12 years believed that Jesus can cure her. when So, she came behind Jesus and touch his cloak and immediately, her bleeding stop. Jesus notice someone had touched him and said: “Who touched my clothes?” (v. 20) The woman approached him and confessed that she was the one. Jesus said to her: “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be free from your suffering” (v. 34)
Meanwhile some men came to report to Jairus that her daughter is dead. Jesus told Jairus : ” Don’t be afraid, just believe” (v. 326). Peter, James and John went with Jesus to the child’s room. Jesus said to her: “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” (v. 41). Immediately, the girl , 12 years in age stood up and walked around. All the people were astonished.
REFLECTION:
- Demons really exist but Jesus can overpower them. Are you trusting God in whatever circumstances you may encounter?
- The woman’s faith may be superstitious but Jesus honored it. Can you take the first step of faith in order to lead you to greater blessings?
- Upon seeing what had happened to the demon-possessed man and the pigs, the people pleaded Jesus to leave their region. It shows that the people would rather have their swine than to have their Savior. Would you choose Jesus or material things?
- The healed man begged to go with Jesus but Jesus wanted him to stay home and serve him there. Are you serving Lord at home?
- No matter how depressing your situation is, will you remember His Word: “Do not be afraid; only believe” ?
