[:en]SCRIPTURE: LUKE 11
Bible Verse:
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Luke 11:9-10)
““Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.” (Luke 11:23)
““Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” (Luke 11:28)
“Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness.” (Luke 11:34)
JESUS’ TEACHING IN PRAYER (vs. 1-13)
THE LORD’S PRAYER
“Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation” (vs. 2-4)
Jesus gave assurance that we ask, seek and knock, it will be given, found and opened. If an earthly father will give good gifts to his children, how much more will Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to hose who ask him. (v. 13)
JESUS AND BEELZEBUB (vs. 14-28)
When Jesus drove out a demon from a mute, some people marvelled while others accused him of being in league with the devil. “Beelzebub” means “lord of the flies” (2 Kings 1:1-3). Jesus defended himself by saying it is illogical for Satan to fight against himself. Satan’s kingdom had been conquered by Jesus (1 John 3:8)
In verses 24-26, Jesus gave an example of an empty and clean house which will be occupied by wicked spirits. He illustrated the danger of neutrality. An empty life gives Satan the opportunity to do more damage.
THE SIGNS OF JONAH (vs. 29-32)
The leaders asked Jesus for a sign. But the only sign given to them was the sign of Jonah which is death, burial and resurrection. Seeking for more sings was an evidence of unbelief.
THE LAMP OF THE BODY (vs. 33-36)
Our eye is the lamp of the body. A single eye” can see clearly but a “divided eye” blurred own vision. See to it that that your whole body is full of light.
SIX WOES (vs. 37-53)
- You give tithes to God but neglect justice and love of God. (v. 42)
- You love the most important seats in the synagogues and greetings in the market places (v. 43)
- You are like unmarked graves which mean walk over without knowing it (v. 44)
- You load people down with burdens that they can hardly carry and you will not lift one finger to help them (v. 46)
- You build tombs for the prophets but it was your forefathers who killed them (v. 47)
- You have taken away the key to knowledge and hindered those who were entering. (v. 52)
RELECTION;
- When you pray, do you pray for God’s will be done, not your will be done?
- Do you believe that Jesus has power over Satan?
- Do you want more signs from God before you would believe in Him?
- Have you let the light of God shine in this world through your life?
- Are you guilty of the 6 woes of the Pharisees?
