[:en]SCRIPTURE: LUKE 22
Bible Verses:
“And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table” (Luke 22:19-20)
“Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.” (Luke 22:34)
“On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” (Luke 22:40-42)
JUDAS AGREES TO BETRAY JESUS (vs. 1-6)
When Satan entered Judas, he went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed to betray Jesus in exchange for money.
THE LAST SUPPER (vs. 7-38)
Jesus told his disciples to make preparation for the Passover. Jesus said to his disciple: “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God” (vs. 15-16).
Then he took the cup, gave thanks and said: “Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the wine until the Kingdom of God domes (vs. 17-18)
And he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and gave it to them saying: This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me”. In the same way, he took the cup saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood which is poured out for you” (v. 20)
Then, there was a dispute among the disciples as to which of them was considered to be the greatest. Jesus taught them the lesson of humility. He said: ” The greatest among you should be the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who rules like the one who serves” (v. 26). Jesus showed himself as the one who serves.
Jesus told Peter that he will pray for him to stand firm so that he could strengthen his brothers. But Peter assured Jesus that he was ready to with him to prison and to death. But Jesus answered: “Before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you know me” (v. 34)
JESUS PRAYS ON MOUNT OF OLIVES (vs. 39-46)

Then he prayed to the Father: “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me, yet not my will, but yours be done” (v. 40) When he rose from prayer and went to his disciples, he found them sleeping. He told them to get up and pray.
JESUS ARRESTED (vs. 47-53)
Judas was leading a crowd to Jesus. He approached Jesus and kiss him. He used kiss as a sing to betray Jesus. Then one of Jesus’ followers stuck the servant of the high priest with a sword cutting his right ear. But Jesus touched and healed him.
PETER DISOWNS JESUS 9vs. 54-62)
Peter disowned Jesus with these statements:
- “Woman, I don’t know him” (v. 57)
- “Man, I am not! “(v. 58)
- “Man, I don’t know what you are talking about” (v. 60)
Then the rooster crowed and Jesus turned and looked straight at Peter. Peter remembered His word and went outside weeping bitterly.
THE GUARDS MOCK JESUS (v.s 63-65)
The guard mocked, geat, hit, insulted and blindfolded Jesus.
JESUS BEFORE PILATE AND HEROD (vs. 66-71)
The counsel of the people, chief priests and the teachers of the law met together and asked Jesus: “Are you Christ?! Jesus answered: “You are right in saying I am” (v. 70). From now one, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God” (v. 69). Then they accused him of blasphemy.
THOUGHTS:
HOW SATAN WORKED?
- He energized Judas to betray Jesus
- He incited His disciples the desires to be the greatest.
- He lured His disciples to sleep instead of praying.
- He blinded people to condemn their own Messiah
- He stayed in the courtyard to question Peter.
BEWARE OF SATAN! HE IS STILL ACTIVE NOW WORKING FOR US:
- To betray Jesus with material temptation
- To incite jealousy among brethren in seeking for who is the greatest
- To discourage us from communicating with God
- To lead us into committing injustice
- To question our faith in Christ.
