[:en]SCRIPTURE: JOHN 9
Bible Verses:
“ He replied, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!” (John 9:25)
“Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.” (John 9:39)
JESUS HEALS A MAN BORN BLIND (vs. 1-12)
A man was born blind from birth. The reason was not this man nor his parents sinned but it happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. Jesus spit on the ground, made some sand with the saliva and put it on the man’s eyes. He told him to go and wash in the Pool of Siloam. The man sent and washed and came home seeing.
THE PHARISEES INVESTIGATE THE HEALING (vs. 13-34)
The man was brought to the Pharisees and they investigate who healed him. They did not believe it is from God because the healing was done on the Sabbath day. So, they called the parents and the man to investigate. The parents confirmed that it was their son. But his son did not know who cured him when he said: “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know, I was blind but now I see.” (v. 25). The man testified that Jesus was from God. Otherwise, he could do nothing” (v. 33)
SPIRITUAL BLINDNESS (vs. 35-41)
Jesus met the man and revealed to him that he is the Son of man. The man believed and worshipped him.
LIFE APPLICATION:
- The characteristic of a sinner is like the blind man – blind, begging and helpless. Jesus healed him and made him see. We need Christ to deliver us from the darkness of sin and hell.
- The religious leaders would cast out anyone who confessed Christ openly. The blind man fearlessly stood his ground and confessed that he was a man called Jesus, a prophet and a man of God. He was excommunicated from the synagogue but Christ took him in. He finally knew that he is the Son of God. He lost his religion but found salvation. We must not be ashamed to declare our faith in spite of opposition. Persecution may come and you may lost friends. But no one can take away the eternal life that Jesus gives you.
- Jesus purposely cured the blind man on the Sabbath day to teach us that it is right to care for others’ needs even if it involves working on a day of rest..
