[:en]SCRIPTURE:  JOHN 14

Bible Verses:

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. ” (John 14:1-3)

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”” (John 14:5)

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. ” (John 14:65)

Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” (John 14:11-14)

“If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—” (John 14:15-16)

Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them” (John 14:23)

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:26)

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)

JESUS COMFORTS HIS DISCIPLES (vs. 1-4)

Jesus gave comfort to his disciples by promising them a place in his FAther’s house.

JESUS THE WAY TO THE FATHER (vs. 5-14)

Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me” (v. 6).  He is going to do whatever we ask in His name.

JESUS PROMISES THE HOLY SPIRIT (vs. 15-31)

To love God is to obey His command.  He is going to send us the Counselor (Holy Spirit) to teach us all things.  Jesus leaves with us a kind of peace that the world does not give.  He reminds us this:  “Do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid” (vs. 27)

THOUGHTS:

  1. The disciples of Jesus were troubled because he was leaving them.  But Jesus promised a place for them in heaven.  We can only get to heaven through Jesus because He is the way, the truth and the life.
  2. Jesus affirmed that he and his father are one.  He promised to do whatever we ask in His name through prayer.  Asking in His name means asking according to His will.
  3. The only proof that we love God is to obey His Word with commitment and conduct.
  4. Jesus sends another counselor to comfort, counsel and teach us all truth.  Christians must spend time learning His Word and obeying with evidence in deeds.
  5. The peace that Jesus gives is deep, satisfying and permanent.  It is entirely different from the peace that the world has.  It dwells in the heart that give us three kinds of peace – peace of God, peace with God and peace with men.
