SCRIPTURE: ACTS 24
Bible Verses:
“However, I admit that I worship the God of our ancestors as a follower of the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets, and I have the same hope in God as these men themselves have, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man.” (Acts 24:14-16)
THE TRIAL BEFORE FELIX (vs. 1-27)
Ananias went to see a lawyer named Tertullus and brought charges against Paul before governor Felix. Tertullus presented the case by starting with flattery to the governance of excellent Felix. Then he used slander to accuse Paul followed by false witness to support his lies about Paul.
THREE ACCUSATIONS OF THE JEWS AGAINST PAUL
- Personal accusation – “We have found this man to be a trouble maker (v. 5a)
- Political accusation – He was stirring up riots among the Jews all over the world (v. 5b)
- Religious accusation – He is a ring leader of the Nazarene sect and even tried to desecrate the temple ( v. 5c)
Paul defense included his life, his faith and his service to the nation. The enemies could not prove their accusation bu7 Paul was left in prison because Felix wanted to grant a favor to the jews to help keep peace.
THOUGHT:
Paul’s words to Felix were personal and focused on righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come. the good news is effective if it comes from principles and doctrine into a life changing dynamic.
