Our Daily Scripture – 5/23/22

SCRIPTURE:  ROMANS 3
Bible Verses:

As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands;  there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.” (Romans 3:10-12)

“Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit.”
“The poison of vipers is on their lips.” “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”[ “Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know.”
“There is no fear of God before their eyes.” (Romans 3:13-18)

This righteousness is given through faith in[h] Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. (Romans 3:22-24)

For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.” (Romans 3:28)

“Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law.” (Romans 3:31)

GOD’S FAITHFULNESS (vs. 1-8)

When we use human argument to talk about God’s righteousness, we will say that God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us.  That is incorrect because how could God not judge the world that is doing evil?  If God does not judge evil, then he will be unjust to those who are doing good.

NO ONE IS RIGHTEOUS (vs. 9-20)

All Jews and Gentiles are alike and under sin.  There is no one righteous, not even one.  There is no one who does good, not even one.

Proofs of the sinfulness of mankind:

  1. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit.  The poison of vipers is on their lips (v. 13)
  2. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness (v. 14)
  3. Their feet are swift to shed blood (v. 15)
  4. Ruin and misery mark their ways (v. 16)
  5. They do not know the way of peace (v. 17)
  6. There is no fear of God before their eyes (v. 18)

RIGHTEOUSNESS THROUGH FAITH (vs. 21-31)

“The righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believes. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christs Jesus”(vs. 22-24)

Before his sacrifice, the sins committed were left unpunished.  But God demonstrated his justice through faith in Jesus.  So, a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.  But it does not mean that we nullify the law by faith but rather we uphold the law.

THOUGHTS:

  • There is no difference in sin or on salvation between the Jews and the Gentiles.  God has given grace and mercy upon all.
  • Paul proved that the law condemns but can never save.  Man is declared righteous because of faith as shown in Abraham as an example in the Old Testament.
  • We are justified freely by His grace, not by works, good deeds, gifts or prayer but freely His grace alone.  When Jesus died, he bore our sins on his own body and paid the price.  God’s wrath has been justified and Christ had provided a redemption for our sins.  He arose again and is alive to save all who will believe in Him.
  •  Both Jews and Gentiles are saved by faith. This means of salvation does not cancel the law because the Law demands death for sin and Christ had died for our sins.  Thus, God’s laws and God’s grace compliment each other.  God’s law reveal our need of grace and Gods grace enables us to obey the law.
  • Some argued that we don’t have to worry about sin because   (1)-God will forgive; (2)- God is a loving God so he won’t judge us; (3)-Sin can teach us valuable lessons.  This is taking the grace of God for granted.  But since God is just and holy, there is no excuse to exempt us from answering to God for our sins.
  • Paul said that no one is good because all have fallen into sin.  But God through Christ had redeemed us and forgave us if we turn to him in faith.
  • All sins whether it is “little sin” or a “big sin” separates us from fellowship with God.  Therefore, even if you commit “little sins”, it also leads to death unless you seek forgiveness from God.

Why is faith so important ?

  1.  Faith is not a deed that we do for us to be proud of .
  2.  Faith exalts what God has done for us, not what we do.
  3. Faith admits our incapability o keep the law to God’s standard.
  4. Faith reveals our relationship with God.
