SCRIPTURE: HEBREWS 6
BIBLE VERSES:
“Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment” (Hebrews 6:1-2)
“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” (Hebrews 6:10)
“Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” (Hebrews 6:17-20)
Paul warned us to leave the elementary teachings and challenged us to go on to maturity. Christian life should not be stagnant nor sluggish. Otherwise it will stop being fruitful. Believers who are disobedient bring shame to Christ. They have tasted the Word and power of God but if they fall away, they are crucifying the Son of God again. They are not real believers and not truly saved. True believers who had experienced the spiritual blessings of God but who fell by their side are in danger of divine chastening and becoming cast aways which results in the loss of reward and divine disapproval. In order to go on to maturity, diligence and patience are required in Christian life. God had promised and assured us like that of a mother that are His. We are to anchor in Him to make our spiritual progress.
THOUGHTS:
Christians need to move beyond the basics of their faith to a more understanding of their Christ as their High Priest and the fulfillment of all the Old Testament prophesies.
Christians who continue to sin go backward in their spiritual lives will bring shame to Christ. While they are still living in sin, they cannot be brought to repentance and in danger of divine chastening. They cannot bear fruits and will suffer loss at the judgment seat of Christ.,
God’s promises are unchanging and trustworthy. Our Hope is secured and immovable anchored in God like a ship anchored to the seabed. Let us come to him in honesty and sincerity and ask Him to save us from our sins. His truth will give us encouragement, assurance and confidence.
