Our Daily Scripture – 8/22/22

SCRIPTURE:  HEBREWS 7

BIBLE VERSES:

For it is declared: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”(Hebrews 7:17)

“But he became a priest with an oath when God said to him: “The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind:  ‘You are a priest forever.’”  Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant.” (Hebrews 7:21-22)

“Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.  Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself” (Hebrews 7:26-27)

MECHIZEDEK THE PRIESTS (vs. 1-10)

Melchizedek was the priest of God Most High.  His name was “King of Righteousness” and also “King of Salem” which means “King of peace”.  He was without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning or end of life and remained a priest forever like the Son of God.  He was not a descent of Levi yet collected a tenth from Abraham.

THOUGHTS:

Christ has paid the price of our sins once and for all which gives us permanent forgiveness.  The Levitical priesthood of annual sacrifice was cancelled.  We no longer need to rely on an animal sacrifice to obtain God’s forgiveness.  His death served as the perfect atonement for our sins and brings us eternal life.  As High Priest, Christ is our Advocate, the mediator between man and God.  He makes perpetual intercession for us before God and assurance us from the guilt of sin.
