SCRIPTURE: GENESIS 15
BIBLE VERSES:
“After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.” (Genesis 15:1)
“He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.” (Genesis 15:5-6)
“On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram and said, “To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates— the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites.” (Genesis 15:18-21)
GOD’S COVENANT WITH ABRAM (vs. 1-21)
God made a covenant with Abram to be his shield and give him great reward. However, Abram was childless, so the one to inherit his estate was Eliezer of Damascus, the heir of his household servant. But God told him that he will have his own son as his heir. God promised his offspring to be like the stars in heaven that cannot be counted. Abram believed the Lord and he credited it to him as righteousness. God also promised to give him land as his possessions. He will die in peace and be buried at old age. But his descendants will be strangers in a foreign country and they will be enslaved and mistreated for 400 years. To the descendants of Abram, God gave them the following: land from the river of Egypt to the great Euphrates River, which consist of the land of Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites.
THOUGHTS:
While fear of revenge remained in Abram after he had defeated the kings, God promised him protection and reward. When you f ear what lies ahead, remember tha tGod will stay with you through difficult times and that he has promised you great blessings.
Abraham was despairing to have an heir. God promised him descendants like the stars in the sky or the grass or sand on the seashore too numerous to count and imagine. And Abraham believed. When you have a need, remember that God’s blessings are beyond our imagination if you BELIEVE.
