SCRIPTURE: REVELATION 21
BIBLE VERSES:
“ Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelation 21:1-4)
“He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” (Revelation 21:6-8)
“ I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. ” (Revelation 21:22-23)
THE NEW JERUSALEM (vs. 1-26)
John saw a new heaven and new earth without any sea. He also saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. Then a loud voice from the throne said: “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (vs. 3-4). Then he said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be His God and he will be my son. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immortal, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters smf all liars – their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” (vs. 6-8)
An angel carried John in the Spirit to a great and high mountain and showed him the Holy City with the glory of God shown in brillance. The City had a great high wall with 12 angels at the gate. The names of 12 tribes were written at the gates. There were 3 gates each on the east, west, north and south. The wall of the city had 12 foundations with the name of the 12 apostles of the lamb.
Then an angel measured the city of 12k stadium in length. width and height. Its wall was 144 cubits thick decorated with every kind of precious stones. The wall was made of pure gold. The foundation of the city wall were decorated with 12 kinds of precious stones: japer, sapphire, chaludong, emerald,sardonyx, carnelian, chrysolite, beryl, topaz,m chrysoprase Jacinth and amethyst. The 12 gates were 12 pearl.
The Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The glory of God give us temporary light and the Lamb is the lamb. The nations will walk by tis light and there will be no night. The gates will be opened to those whose names are written in the Lord’s book of life.
THOUGHTS;
Human history begins with a garden and ends in the heavenly city with the presence of God in his glory that makes all things new. There is no pain, death, sorrow or curse. Its comfort and beauty are beyond human description. This presence of eternal glory was given to John to encourage people who endured trials and persecution.
The measurement of 12 are symbolic number for God’s people. There were 12 tribes of Israel. Jesus chose 12 disciples. The cit measured 12,000 stadia in length and 144 cubits thick. There are 12 layers in the wall, 12 gates in the city. The New Jerusalem is a perfect cube which illustrated perfection. The walls made of jewels symbolized a plan of purity and durability. But only those whom his name is written in the Lamb’s Book of life will be allowed to enter into the New Jerusalem. Have you secured your citizenship in this new creation?
