Our Daily Scripture – 12/20/22

SCRIPTURE:  EXODUS 21

HEBREW SERVANTS:  (vs. 1-11)

Laws of Hebrew Servants:

  1.  If you buy a Hebrew servant, he is to serve you 6 years and he shall be free on the 7ith year without paying anything.
  2. If the Hebrew servant has a wife, she has to go with him.
  3. If hismaster gives him a wife and the wife bears children, the woman and children belongs to the master.  Only the man shall go free.
  4. If the servant does not want to go free because he wants to be with his wife and children, his master must take him before the judge and pierce his ears with an awl.  Then, he will be his servant for life.
  5. If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as menservants do.
  6. If the master is not please with her, he must let her be redeemed and has no right to sell her to foreigners.  If he selects her for his son, he must grant her the rights of a daughter.  If his son marries another woman, he must provide her food, clothing and marital rights.  Otherwise, she is to go free without any payment of money.

PERSONAL INJUIRIES (vs. 12-36)

Death sentences for the following:

  1.  Anyone who strikes a man and kill him intentionally.
  2. Anyone who attacks his father or mother.
  3. Anyone who kidnap another or sells him or still has him when he is caught.
  4. Anyone who curses his father or mother.

STONE TO DEATH SENTENCE:

  1.  If a bull gores someone to death.
  2. If a bulls gores a male or female slave.
  3. If the owner of the bulls has been warned about his bull’s goring but did not keep it penned up and it kills a man or woman, the bull must be stoned and the owner also must be put to death.  However, if payment is demanded of him, he may redeem his life by paying whatever is demanded.
  4. If a bull gores a male or female slave, the owner must pay thirty shekels of silver to the mast of the slave and the bull must be stoned.

PAYMENT FOR INJURY:

  1. If men quarrel and hit the other with a stone on his feet, he must pay the injured man for the loss of his time and see that he is completely healed.
  2. If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely, but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman’s husband demands and the court allows.  But it there is a serious injury, take life for lie, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.
  3. If a man hits a manservant or maidservant in the ye and destroys it, he must let the servant go free to compensate for the eye.  And if he knocks out the tooth of a manservant or maidservant, he must let the servant go free to compensate for the tooth.

OTHERS:

  1.  If a man does not strike a man intentionally but God let it happen, he is to flee to a place God designated.
  2. If a man fails to cover a pit and the ox or donkey falls into it, he may pay it’s owner and the dead animal will be his.
  3. If a man’s bull injures the bull of another and it dies, they are to sell the live one and divide both the money and the dead animal equally.  However, if the bull had the habit of goring but the owner did not keep it, the owner must pay animal for animal and the dead animal will be his.
