SCRIPTURE: EXODUS 6
BIBLE VERSES:
“Then the Lord said to Moses, “Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: Because of my mighty hand he will let them go; because of my mighty hand he will drive them out of his country.” God also said to Moses, “I am the Lord. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the Lord I did not make myself fully known to them. I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, where they resided as foreigners. Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant.” (Exodus 6:1-5)
“Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his country.” (Exodus 6:10)
God told Moses to say to the Israelites the following ‘I WILL’: (vs. 2-8)
- I am the lord and I will bring you out from under the yoke.
- I will free you from being slaves to them
- I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with might acts of judgment
- I will take you as my own people
- I will be your God
- I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob.
- I will give it to you as a possession, I am the Lord”
But the people did not listen because of their discouragement and cruel bondage. The the Lord told Moses to tell Pharaoh, king of Egypt to let the Israelite go out of his country.
FAMILY RECORD OF MOSES AND AARON (vs. 16-27)
Clans and families of Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Korahite were recorded.
AARON TO SPEAK FOR MOSES (VS. 28-30)
The Lord told Moses to speak to Pharaoh. Moses said that Pharaoh would not listen to him because he had faltering lips.
THOUGHTS:
The rescue of the Jews from Egypt portrayed salvation. The Israelites were freed from the slavery in Egypt. He accepted them as His people and led them to the promised land. God redeem us from sin. He delivers us, accepts us and leads as to a new life. He becomes our God as we follow Him.
The Jews were discouraged to listen to God’s message because all they got was more work and greater suffering. When you are a leader, people may turn away from wanting to hear more about God because of setbacks. See beyond the setback but keep focusing on God and you will be able to see the results to be achieved.
