Our Daily Scripture – 1/28/23

SCRIPTURE:  LEVITICUS 20

BIBLE VERSES:

“Consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am the Lord your God.  Keep my decrees and follow them. I am the Lord, who makes you holy.” (Leviticus 20:7-8)

“You must not live according to the customs of the nations I am going to drive out before you. Because they did all these things, I abhorred them.  But I said to you, “You will possess their land; I will give it to you as an inheritance, a land flowing with milk and honey.” I am the Lord your God, who has set you apart from the nations.” (Leviticus 20:23-24)

“You must therefore make a distinction between clean and unclean animals and between unclean and clean birds. Do not defile yourselves by any animal or bird or anything that moves along the ground—those that I have set apart as unclean for you.  You are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own.” (Leviticus 20:25-26)

PUNISHMENTS FOR SINS (vs. 1-27)

SINS AND PUNISHMENTS:

  1.  Giving any of his children to Molech – Put to death by stoning him.  God will cut  off his family.  (vs. 2-5)
  2.  Turns to mediums and spiritists and his followers / God will cut him off from his people. (v. 6)
  3. Anyone who curse his father and mother / Put to death. (v. 9)
  4. Any man who commits adultery with another man’s wife / Both the adulterer and adulteress must be put to death (v. 10)
  5. A man who sleeps with his father’s wife / Both the man and woman must be put to death. (v. 11)
  6. A man who sleeps with his daughter-ion-law / Both of them must be put to death. (v. 12)
  7. A man who lies with a man / Both of them must be put to death (v. 13)
  8. A man who marries both a woman and her mother / All of them must be burned in the fire. (v. 14)
  9. A man who has sexual relation with an animal / He must be put to death and the animal be killed. (v. 15)
  10. A woman who has sexual relation with an animal / Both the woman and animal must be put to death. (v. 16)
  11. A man who marries his sister, the daughter of either his father or his mother / They must be cut off before the eyes of their people. (v. 17)
  12. A man who has sexual relation with a woman during his monthly period / Both must be cut off from their people. (v. 18)
  13. A man who has sexual relation with the sister of either his mother or father / Both will be held responsible. *v. 19)
  14. A man who sleeps with his aunt / They will die childless. (v. 20)
  15. A man who marries his brother’s wife / They will be childless. (v. 21)

THOUGHTS:

God sets laws to the Israelites about idolatry, superstition, hishoring parents and immorality.  This laws still apply to us.  We should set out highest motive for holy living because God is holy.

God warns about looking to the occult for advice.  Occult practices are fakes and their predictions cannot be trusted.  They are extremely dangerous because they are in contract with evil spirits.  We do not need to inquire from them information about the future.  We have the trustworthy Bible to obtain all the information we need.

God gave many rules to his people because he wants to keep us from self-destruction, suffering and separation from God.  If you want to live a peaceful and joyful life, follow his commands.
