SCRIPTURE:  LEVITICUS 2

BIBLE VERSE:

“‘Every grain offering you bring to the Lord must be made without yeast, for you are not to burn any yeast or honey in a food offering presented to the Lord. 12 You may bring them to the Lord as an offering of the firstfruits, but they are not to be offered on the altar as a pleasing aroma. 13 Season all your grain offerings with salt. Do not leave the salt of the covenant of your God out of your grain offerings; add salt to all your offerings.” (Exodus 2:11-13)

THE GRAIN OFFERING (vs. 1-16)

Grain offering must be of fine flour without yeast mix with oil.  Put incense and season with salt.  Three kinds of grain offerings were listed:

  1.  Fine floor with oil together with all the incense
  2.  Baked cakes or wafers of fine flour and oil
  3.  Roasted kernels of grain (corn) with oil and incense.

The absence of yeast symbolized the absence of sin and the oil symbolized God’s presence.  Part of the grain offering was burned on the altar as a gift to God.  The rest were eaten by the priests. This offering was seasoned with salt.  Salt can penetrate, preserve and aid in healing.  This is a reminder of the people’s covenant with God because God wanted to be active in our lives.  He can penetrate every aspect of our lives, preserve us from evil surroundings and heal our sins and shortcomings.

THOUGHTS:

Grain offering does not mingled with any blood.  The composition are:  fine flour, oil, incense- then go through fire.  The fine flour speaks of Christ’s perfect character and life.  The oil is mingled reminds us that Christ was born of the Spirit. and poured which speaks of Christ’s anointing by the Spirit for His ministry.  The incense added on wonderful fragrance illustrated the beauty and fragrance of Christ’s perfect life here on earth.  The offering had to go through the fire just as Christ had to endure the fire of suffering at the calvary.  The salt symbolized purity and absence of decay.  The offering was never to have leaven nor honey.  May the Spirit of God be with us so that we may become more like Him being fragrant and pure,
