SCRIPTURE: LEVITICUS 27
BIBLE VERSES:
“‘But nothing that a person owns and devotes to the Lord—whether a human being or an animal or family land—may be sold or redeemed; everything so devoted is most holy to the Lord.” (Leviticus 27:28)
“‘A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord” (Leviticus 27: 30)
REDEEMING WHAT IS THE LORD’S (vs. 1-34)
A vow made to the Lord may involve people, animals, property or produce. If a man makes a vow, he is not permitted to back out or offer a cheaper substitute. If the man wants to redeem what he had offered in vow, the priest will be the one to evaluate the amount plus 1/5 more. No one can dedicate the first born of an animal because the firstborn already belongs to the Lord. Nothing which is devoted to the Lord whether man or animal or family land may be sold or redeemed.
THOUGHTS:
When we experience great joy or great sorrow, be careful not to make rash promises and vows to God that we cannot keep. It is better not to make a vow if you are not capable of fulfilling it.
