THE KOHATHITES (vs. 1-20)
The work of the Kohathites is to care care of the most holy things.
THE GERSHONITES (vs. 21-28)
The work of the Gershonites is to carry burdens.
THE MERARITES (VS. 19-33)
The work of the Merarites is to serve in the work at the Tent of Meeting.
THE NUMBERING OF THE LEVITE CLANS (vs. 34-48)
Kohathites – 2750 ; Gershonites – 2,630 ; Mararites – 3,200. Total number is 8,580.
THOUGHTS:
God instructed the priests and the Levites on how to dismantle and carry the tabernacle of the Lord., Each detail was given for them to follow. God’s work is significant and must not be left to mere human wisdom.
God assigned to each clan different kinds of work. Some had heavier burdens than others but God will enable them to do it. Similarly, each person is vital to the work of the Lord no matter what task God assigns.
Directions were given by Aaron and his sons to the clans. The lines of authority and accountability were communicated to all. As church function in service to God, make sure that the lines of authority were clearly communicated and understood in order to have good relationship among each other.
